Mandya: A high alert was today sounded in South Karnataka, after the demise of Kannada actor-turned-politician Malavalli Huchche Gowda Amarnath, famous by screen name Ambareesh. Security has been tightened up in Mandya district, as it has a huge fan following of the deceased film politician, Times of India reported.

According to the report, precautionary measures have been put in place to deal with any unfortunate incident. There is a fear that fans might take an extreme step in the wake of the politician’s death. To avoid the untoward situation, security has been beefed up.

As the demise of MH Ambareesh hit headlines, many followers took to the street to express their grief, and offer condolences to the family.

Actor-turned-politician Malavalli Huchche Gowda Amarnath, famous by screen name Ambareesh, died on Saturday at the age of 66. The former Congress MLA breathed his last at Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru. He is survived by his wife Sumalatha and son Abhishek Gowda.

Earlier in the evening, he complained of breathlessness following which he was rushed to the hospital.

Ambareesh had served as the Minister of State (MoS), in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, from October 24, 2006 to February 15, 2008 under the Manmohan Singh-led government. Expressing grief over his sudden demise, the Karnataka Congress Pradesh Committee (KPCC) chief Dinesh Gundu Rao tweeted, “Shocked to hear the news of our beloved politician and rebel star #Ambarish’s demise. One of Karnataka’s iconic film stars and much-loved personality. My heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.”
