New Delhi, May 1: Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) managing director, R S Sodhi, came in support of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s suggestion to youths on rearing cows for regular income rather than running after government jobs.

Talking to PTI, Sodhi, Managing Director of GCMMF which sells its products under the ‘Amul’ brand name, said that it is a practical suggestion to eliminate unemployment. The dairy sector is very lucrative, providing good income to many educated youths as well. He also took to the micro-blogging site to show his support to Tripura Chief Minister.

On Sunday, Tripura CM had suggested the youths that income can be generated by rearing cows, pigs or poultry birds. His remarks had triggered sharp reactions from critics who slammed him saying that the state government should rather talk about generating jobs. He was badly trolled on the social media too for his controversial remarks.

“People are under the wrong perception that only illiterates do dairy farming as it involves things like cleaning dung & waking up early, but now it has become modern & mechanized. It is a very lucrative & stable business” Sodhi was quoted saying.

He also cautioned that if educated youths do not come into the dairy sector, India may have to import milk like the crude oil. (Also read: Do Not Run After Political Parties, Instead Get Self-employed, Biplab Deb Tells Educated Youth)

Earlier in the day, Biplab Deb once again had stoked controversy by saying that if anyone interferes in his government or poke at it, he would chop their nails off. Recently, Tripura CM has been trolled on many occasions for his bizarre remarks like civil engineers are better suited for civil services than mechanical engineers, raising a question on the rationale behind crowning Diana Hayden ‘Miss World’ 21 years ago.

Earlier in the day, Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury had also slammed the BJP government for its chief ministers’ controversial remarks. She said, “You have another Chief Minister of the BJP Mr. Biplab Deb who has told us not only that it is a waste of time looking for a government job and that the unemployed, educated should have opened paan shops.”

BJP sources claimed that Deb had been summoned to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah on May 2, Wednesday.
