Hyderabad, August 10: Mere days after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had come down heavily on the self-styled cow vigilantes, calling them dangerous and a threat to society, another incident of violence at the hands of such elements has been reported from Andhra Pradesh. Two Dalit men were reportedly tried to a coconut tree, stripped and brutally thrashed for skinning a dead cow. Mokati Elisa and his brother Lazar were on Monday attacked by about 100 ‘Gau Rakshaks’, when they were skinning a cow, which was killed due to electrocution, said the police. The incident has been reported from Amalapuram. The victims have been hospitalised in critical condition, and two of the attackers have been identified as Gangadhar and Ramana. This comes just a week after the PM had delivered a tough message against practising such brand of vigilantism. Speaking in the neighbouring state of Telangana, he had said, “If you have a problem, if you feel like attacking someone, attack me, not my Dalit brothers. Last month, four tannery workers from the Dalit community, had been tied together, stripped and beaten by a group of Gau Rakshaks in Gujarat’s Una, located in Somnath. The culprits had also posted the video online, as a ‘warning’ to others. The deplorable incident had lead to widespread protests across the state, which had also turned violent, leading to the death of at least three people. A police man was killed in stone pelting during a Dalit protest, while two Dalit men were killed after they while undergoing treatement after they consumed poison in protest to atrocities on the community.
