New Delhi: A bust of BR Ambedkar has allegedly been vandalised in Pedagantyada, Andhra Pradesh, on Wednesday, reported ANI. It is not yet known who vandalised the statue.
In October, tension prevailed in Haryana’s Kalpi village, around 15 km from Ambala Cantonment, after some unidentified miscreants vandalised Ambedkar’s statue, a police official said.
Demanding immediate arrest of those responsible, agitated villagers raised slogans against the district administration. Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Barara, Girish Kumar and police officials assured the villagers that stern action would be taken against the miscreants.
A case was registered against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the IPC, the official said. Meanwhile, police force has been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure, he said.
Every other month, an Ambedkar statue is vandalised. In July, a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar was vandalised by some unidentified miscreants in Moradabad’s Majhola town. An investigation into the matter has been initiated by the police. The face and hands of the statue were damaged in the incident. This is not the first such incident of vandalism.
The incident has come nearly 10 days after a statue of the Dalit icon was damaged in Rampur Asli village in Ballia. The face and a finger of the statue were damaged by the unknown men.
