Chennai, Aug 7: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep condolence over the demise of DMK President and former chief minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi on Tuesday. Naidu said, “The nation has lost a strong politician today. He has left behind his legacy as a writer, artist, journalist, and politician. He will remain in the hearts of Tamil people because of his service and administrative experience.” He also expressed condolences to the family of M Karunanidhi, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party workers and to the people of Tamil Nadu.
The Andhra Pradesh chief minister added,”His (M Karunanidhi) 75 years of political journey as 5 time CM, 13 time MLA, 50 years as Party President is an inspiration to everyone. His life journey will remain forever as Karunanidhi’s era in Tamil Nadu.”
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M Karunanidhi breathed his last in Kauvery hospital on Tuesday in Chennai after a short illness. Karunanidhi, one of the most senior politicians in India, served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu five times. The DMK chief was admitted to Kauvery hospital for the first time on July 18 for a change of tracheostomy tube.
After his demise, a major controversy erupted when the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu denied space for the burial of the veteran leader’s body at Chennai’s Marina beach. After the news, DMK cadres damaged barricades expressing anger at the Tamil Nadu government.
