Hyderabad, Feb 5: In a horrific incident, a software engineer tried to kill his wife by electrocuting her as he was upset at the birth of girl child. He reportedly tied her hand with a wire and tried to give her a shock. However, the woman luckily survived. The incident took place in Krishna district’s Penamaluru village on Friday. The techie identified as S Rajaratnam and his parents were arrested on Sunday after the victim lodged a complaint. Rajaratnam married Prashanti four years ago. The police said the accused and his family have been harassing Prashanti for almost two years demanding additional dowry since she gave birth to a girl. “My husband tied a wire to my hand and tried to give a shock while I was asleep. When I resisted it, he abused me and left home,” she reportedly said in her complaint. “There are several injury marks on her face, neck and hands. Since the birth of the baby girl, Rajaratnam has been harassing her physically and mentally, demanding money,” alleged the parents of Prashanti in the complaint. Penamaluru Police have booked a case under section 498 A (domestic violence) against Rajaratnam. In 2016, a similar incident took place in Nellore when a mother-in-law tried to kill her pregnant daughter-in-law by setting her on fire after an astrologer predicted that she will give birth to a female child.
