Earlier on Sunday, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had condemned the killing of Saxena and had assured that stern action would be taken against the accused.
“Spoke to Ankit’s father. What happened is condemnable. Delhi government will ensure that the best lawyer is hired to fight for justice for Ankit. We will make every possible effort that the accused get a strict punishment. May God give strength to Ankit’s family. We are with them in this struggle,” Kejriwal had said in a series of tweets on Sunday.
Kejriwal’s media advisor Nagendar Sharma also responded to the BJP’s remark questioning Kejriwal’s silence on the unfortunate incident. “Some media houses and opposition should stop playing politics over Ankit’s death,” Sharma tweeted, adding that the Chief Minister was “personally aggrieved” and was in touch with his family.
Earlier in the day, a CCTV footage showing Ankit’s last few minutes before he was attacked emerged. In the video which was captured on February 1 at around 8:04 PM, Ankit was seen sporting a black leather jacket and making phone calls on a busy road in Raghubir Nagar in west Delhi.
The 23-year-old Ankit was stabbed to death by the family members (mother, father, uncle and younger brother) of his girlfriend, whom he had been dating for three years. All four accused were sent to judicial custody on Saturday in connection with the case.
