Srinagar: Even as there was outrage over the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in J&K’s Bandipora, reports of another minor girl’s rape have emerged from Ganderbal. (Also read: NCW Takes Note of Hapur Gangrape Case, Writes to UP DGP)
ANI said on Wednesday that the Ganderbal police station received a complaint of alleged rape of a teenager on May 12. A case was registered. It said that the accused, a Ganderbal resident, has been arrested and is in police custody.
As a part of the investigation, the victim has been medically examined. A special team has also been constituted to fast-track the investigation.
Local media said the family of a girl, aged about 16, approached the police with their complaint on Sunday. Ganderbal Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammed Khalil Poswal said the accused is the survivor’s neighbour.
The Valley has been up in arms over the alleged rape in Bandipora. On Tuesday, students at Amar Singh College in Srinagar clashed with security forces over the rape.
So far, only one person has been arrested. The state police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the rape case.
Governor Satya Pal Malik had also taken note and had directed the police to complete investigations on a fast track basis. Expressing his shock and pain over the incident, the Governor had asked the police to ascertain the right age of the accused.
