New Delhi, March 18: The Patiala House court may have granted six-months interim bail to Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya on Friday, but it is not the day they would have thought of, while entering the campus. Though being celebrated as role models by students of Jawaharlal Nehru University for fighting a long battle, but Bollywood actor Anupam Kher tarnished their image with his ferocious ‘national’ speech, appealing the students not to welcome those who are out on bail.
Addressing a students gathering before screening his upcoming movies ‘Buddha in a Traffic Jam‘ in JNU, the actor slammed Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and others involved in allegedly raising ‘anti-national’ slogans against India. He also said that these students should not be welcomed with garlands, as they are not freedom fighters like Bhagat SIngh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. He said, “Those who are out on bail, they have not earned an olympic medal They are not Sachin Tendulkar, nor are they Sania Nehwal or even Hanumanthappa.” ALSO READ: Anupam Kher on Umar Khalid: Someone who is on bail is not an Olympic hero
Kher asked the students how can they welcome those who are trying to change the definition of role models in the country. He said, “Let us not change the definition of hero in our country. For us, hero (role models) will be the person who will speak good words for the country. Those who speak against the country, how can they become our heroes? How can the people of this university can welcome a person who is just out on bail?”
Anupam while raising several issue in his 10-minute speech, also spoke on the new controversial topic of chanting slogan on “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. He said that this is not even a topic and should not be hyped much. Lastly he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his speech during the World Sufi Forum and said that after many years India have found a leader that can truly represent India.
