Sanghvi denied his involvement in the betting racket and told the police that he had not placed any bets with Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Batla, the alleged kingpin of the betting racket. He said that he had met Sonu at a hotel in Juhu but distanced himself from him as his name surfaced in a cricket betting racket. On June 2, Arbaaz, brother of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, was summoned before the Anti Extortion Cell and confronted with a prominent bookie Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Batla, who was arrested and remanded five days ago, besides four other bookies nabbed late last month.
Khan had not only admitted to betting in the IPL for more than five years but also losing a large amount in the last IPL (2018) series and the habit had also affected his marriage with Malaika, (whom he subsequently divorced).
His name first cropped up during Jalan’s custodial interrogation. Recoveries of his diary with handwritten entries and some photographs led to Arbaaz being summoned. Bollywood director, comedian and TV personality Sajid Khan is likely to be questioned in the IPL betting case as well.
Sajid Khan’s name came up during the ongoing interrogation of arrested bookie Sonu Jalan. The bookie informed the sleuths that Sajid, the brother of Bollywood director and choreographer Farah Khan, used to bet on cricket matches around seven years ago.
Sonu Jalan was first nabbed around 10 years ago when the IPL betting scam had erupted and later investigations proved he was in touch with several world personalities, including Arbaaz.
