DCP, West Delhi, Vijay Kumar stated that Major Nikhil Handa has been misleading the police in the investigation so far. “Accused Nikhil Handa is giving us misleading information day after day. We have done 90% of the work & in coming days the truth will come out,” Kumar said on Wednesday.

Kumar said Handa had met his brother after the incident and they travelled from CR Park to Akshardham in the former’s car.

His brother told the police that Handa had said he was involved in a road accident and did not mention to him about killing of the woman, he added.

According to the police, after stabbing Shailja to death, Major Handa had called one of his friends and told her about the incident. However, she did not believe him.

Army Major Nihil Handa was sent to four-day police custody by Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Monday, a day after he was arrested by the Delhi police in connection with the murder.

Handa was arrested a day after Shailja was found dead in Delhi’s Brar Square area on Saturday. The victim’s body was found with her throat slit.

Interrogation revealed that Major Handa was “obsessed” with his colleague’s wife and wanted to marry her. However, he murdered her when she refused his proposal.

The phone records revealed that the accused Army Major had made over 3,000 calls to Shailja in the last six months.
