New Delhi: Based on the information provided by the central and the military intelligence agencies, a team of ATS, MP police, have apprehended army personnel from Mhow (near Indore) in Madhya Pradesh for his suspected involvement in espionage.

It was learnt that a 26-years-old army clerk from Bihar posted in an Army unit in Mhow, came in touch with a Pakistan based lady through her Facebook profile and got lured. Subsequently, he started receiving tasks of providing information pertaining to location, movement and exercise related to the Indian Army. He used to gather information based on his knowledge and through his contacts in the army. The exchange of information used to happen through internet-based mobile applications like Facebook and WhatsApp. Reportedly he was receiving money in return for the same.

After the individual’s activities came to the notice of Intelligence agencies, he was kept under joint physical and electronic surveillance of agencies including Military Intelligence. On acquisition of suitable evidence based on months-long intelligence work, the individual was apprehended by a team of ATS, MP Police ATS, on May 15, ’19.

Further details pertaining to the individual, his association with Pakistani agencies, information passed, favours received and involvement of others are being ascertained through the joint questioning of the suspect and examination of his devices.

Meanwhile, he has been suspected to have been virtually honey-trapped by enemy intelligence agencies, ANI reported.

Secrecy is being maintained due to sensitivity of the case as a serving individual is involved.
