Arun Jaitley Resumes Charge of Finance, Corporate Affairs Ministries After 3-Month Break For Kidney Transplant
It must be noted that Arun Jaitley underwent a renal transplant on May 14 and on the same day, his ministerial charges were given to Piyush Goyal on an interim basis. Since his surgery, he has been staying in a controlled environment as per the doctors' advice.
New Delhi: Arun Jaitley was reassigned the charge of Finance and Corporate Affairs ministries on Thursday, after recovering from a kidney ailment. He was re-appointed by President Ram Nath Kovind today.
“The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed to assign the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs to Arun Jaitley,” a notification said.
It must be noted that Arun Jaitley underwent a renal transplant on May 14 and on the same day, his ministerial charges were given to Piyush Goyal on an interim basis. Since his surgery, he has been staying in a controlled environment as per the doctors’ advice.
He, however, attended the Rajya Sabha for the election of Deputy Chairman on August 9. This was his first public appearance since May 14. He has been a leader of Rajya Sabha since 2000.

During these three months, Jaitley has been quite active on social media – writing blogs on various economic and non-economic issues, like National Register for Citizens (NRC) in Assam, over four-decades of Emergency, No-confidence Motion in Parliament, Rafael fighter jet deal, and the GST. He also participated in a couple of events like banking conclave and the first anniversary of the launch of Goods and Services Tax (GST) through video conferencing.
