New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was ‘tired of trying to convince the Congress party’ into firming an alliance ahead of the Lok Sabha election.

Addressing a rally near Jama Masjid, the chief minister lashed out at the Congress and said “I don’t know what they have in mind,” over the Grand Old Party’s unwillingness to join hands with AAP.

According to an Indian Express report, Arvind Kejriwal said, ““I believe everywhere there should be one opposition candidate against BJP candidates. Hum Congress ko mana mana ke thak gaye, gatbandhan karlo, gatbandhan karlo (We got tired of trying to convince the Congress for an alliance). I want to ask, should there be a coalition or not? If there is a coalition, the BJP will be routed in Delhi… If I have enough faith that the Congress will win all seven seats in Delhi, then I am ready to leave all seats to them,” he said, adding after a pause that “they won’t”.

Asserting that a probable seat-sharing arrangement could have made sure that the BJP loses, Kejriwal added, “They do not understand. If there is an alliance, the BJP will lose all the seven Lok Sabha seats it currently has in Delhi.”

This development comes in tow of a recent remark made by the Aam Aadmi Party national convener earlier this month, when he said that the Congress has “more or less” ruled out an alliance with the AAP for the Lok Sabha polls.

The Delhi chief minister further strengthened his attack on Congress and wondered aloud what the party was planning to do in Uttar Pradesh- where its presence is abysmal. The Indian Express report quoted, “I don’t understand what they are doing in Uttar Pradesh. They are trying to weaken the SP-BSP in UP and the AAP in Delhi. Congress chahe aaye na aaye — Congress ne mana kar diya hai — (but) I have full faith that the AAP will win,” he said.

Renewing his attack on the BJP’s presumed formidable pair of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, Kejriwal said that the upcoming Lok Sabha election was not about who becomes the prime minister of the country, but about removing Modi and Shah. “Those who have any feeling for the country, should defeat them at any cost in 2019,” he said.
