New Delhi, Apr 27: Failing to repeat its 2015 Assembly election performance in the 2017 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called a meeting of all his lawmakers today. With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retaining its power in all the three Municipal Corporations and the AAP struggling with an all time low popularity ratings, the lawmakers meeting of today is speculated to discuss the future strategy of the party.

Apart from discussing the future strategy, the meeting will also focus on ending the differences generated between many of the AAP politicians. After losing the MCD elections yesterday, many AAP politicians offered to resign from their posts. While Alka Lamba has offered to quit as Delhi legislator, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh has resigned as the state convenor of Punjab and Dilip Pandey has quit as Delhi in-charge. The party also fears to lose its members to defections. Ahead of the MCD elections, two AAP leaders joined BJP after which Kejriwal had alleged that different political parties are attempting to draw his MLAs.

The meeting is also considered to decide on the party’s stand on EVM tampering. After yesterday’s defeat, Bhagwant Mann accused the leadership as “behaving like a mohalla cricket team” and making a “historic blunder” in Punjab elections. Mann further added that instead of blimg EVMs for the loss, the party should look within.

Sources state that in the meeting, the party will also decide whether it should contest the Gujarat Assembly elections that is scheduled to take place later this year. After a poor performance of the party in the Goa and MCD elections, it is been reported that many in the party are against the idea of the party contesting the Gujarat Assembly elections.
