Arvind Kejriwal promises ‘holy place’ status to Amritsar & Anandpur Sahib if AAP comes to power in Punjab

The Aam Aadmi chief also promised prohibition on alcohol, meat around the holy area of Golden Temple if AAP comes to power in Punjab.

Chandigarh, Sep 9: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that Amritsar ward city and Anandpur Sahib will be declared holy places if AAP comes to power in Punjab. The Aam Aadmi chief also promised that if the party wins in the state, there will be prohibition on alcohol, meat around the holy area of Golden Temple. Kejriwal began his four-day tour of Punjab on Thursday.

Kejriwal was sent off by protesters at Delhi railway station and greeted at Ludhiana by more BJP protesters. BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi waved black flags at him protesting against the tainted leaders accused in sexual harassment cases. In Ludhiana, Mahila Congress workers waved black flags, Youth Akalai Dal workers hurled bangles at him, while AAP rebels protested against the removal of Sucha Singh Chhotepur as Punjab convener. After the protests at Delhi railway station, Delhi police said that they had informed their counterparts in Punjab to provide security to the CM. A senior officer was quoted saying, “We didn’t refuse to provide him security. He is leaving Delhi for Punjab for a five-day visit. As per the security norms, if he goes by train or car, we are supposed to drop him at the first place of destination in the other place and thereafter the state police takes over.”

On Friday, the car in which Kejriwal was travelling met with a minor accident in Jalandhar when his car was hit by another car. None was not injured and resumed his journey to Amritsar from Ludhiana where he spent the night. Besides Kejriwal, AAP leaders Bhagwant Mann and Gurpreet Ghuggi were also in the car. Kejriwal’s visit coincided with the launch of Navjot Singh Sidhu’s forum, Awaaz-e-Punjab on Thursday. Sidhu attacked Kejriwal at the launch event for how AAP negotiated with him. During the trip, Kejriwal will pay obeisance at the Golden Temple.
