New Delhi: A teenage girl was allegedly gangraped by five men in a forest in Hojai district a month ago, but the incident came to light recently when a video of the crime shot by one of the accused- went viral.
Three persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, a police officer said. The incident happened at the Dighaljharuni village in Akashiganga reserve forest area, under the jurisdiction of Doboka police station, he said.
It has emerged that the girl was kidnapped on her way to a relative’s place, taken to a forest area and then gangraped by the five accused. Reportedly, the girl was walking to her relative’s place along with her brother-in-law. The official said the girl’s brother-in-law has also been detained for questioning. Two of the accused are absconding.
The survivor and her brother-in-law were let off after some hours and warned against filing a complaint. The girl did not inform anyone due to fear of life- it was only after the accused posted the video online that the case was registered.
Police said the girl was sent to Nagaon Civil Hospital for medical examination, adding that a probe has been initiated in the matter.
