Police has registered a complaint against the culprits who are responsible for this incident.

Assam: Bust of Bharatiya Jana Sangh Founder Syama Prasad Mukherjee Damaged in Kokrajhar

New Delhi, Mar 14: Some unidentified miscreants on Wednesday damaged the bust of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mukherjee in Kokrajhar district of Assam. Earlier also there has been incidents of vandalising statues and busts of known figures across the country.

Residents noticed the damaged bust in the morning and informed the police. Police also reached the spot as soon as they received information. Police has said that we have not received any complaint till now but have registered a case against the miscreants. Police has launched manhunt against the culprits.

This is the first such incident to be reported in Assam, after a statue of Vladimir Lenin was toppled in Tripura’s Belonia town. A statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee was targeted allegedly by Left-wing activists in Kolkata on March 7.

The political leaders have condemned this incident and said that this is hooliganism. Minister of Home Affairs (MHA) also said that ministry has taken serious notes of such incidents of vandalism. PM also spoke to HM in this regard & has expressed his strong disapproval of such incidents.

“MHA has asked the states that they must take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents. Persons indulging in such acts must be sternly dealt with & booked under relevant provisions of law,” it added.  Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also “strongly disapproved” incidents of vandalism of statues in certain parts of the country and spoke to Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the matter.
