CATCH – Uttar Pradesh Election Results 2017 LIVE Updates
The exit polls have predicted a Bharatiya Janata Party victory in four out of five states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa. In Punjab, the exit polls say that it’s going to be a close call between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress with stakes high for both the parties even as they predict a debacle for the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance.
For Uttar Pradesh, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a whopping 24 rallies, the exit polls have predicted major gains for the BJP. While some exit polls have given complete majority to the BJP, others have predicted the BJP emerging as the single largest party here. In Uttarakhand, ruled by the Congress with Chief Minister Harish Rawat at the helm, it is being said that the Bharatiya Janata Party may be coming to power. In Manipur too, where the Congress has been in power for the past 25 years, exit polls have predicted majority for the BJP even as the party had zero seats in the Assembly in 2012. In Goa, exit polls have predicted clear victory for the BJP even though the numbers have been kept at just the half way mark in the 60-seat Assembly. In Punjab, poll pundits have predicted a close contest between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress even as the Akali Dal-BJP combine is being said to be decimated.
While predictions have been made, the actual results will be clear only after 8 am on March 11 as counting begins. Whether the exit polls will be proven right will be clear in a few hours.
