However, the opinion polls seems to be divided on the outcome of the election for the states of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The India Today-Axis opinion poll that released yesterday has predicted BJP to be a clear winner in Uttar Pradesh with the party winning 2016-216 seats out of the total 403 seats. On the other hand, the ABP News-Lokniti-CSDS opinion poll released on Tuesday has projected a hung parliament with Samajwadi Party to be the major gainer in the elections. In the ABP News-Lokniti-CSDS opinion poll, the poll gave Samajwadi Party 141-151 seats whereas BJP on the second spot is projected to win between 129-139 seats. Both of the opinion poll were conducted in the month of December. Also Read - Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017 Results: Congress Steals the March in PM Narendra Modi’s Hometown of Unjha

The opinion polls have also stated a different outcome in the Punjab assembly election. In the ABP News-Lokniti-CSDS opinion poll, released on wednesday, the poll showed the SAD-BJP government to be the major party in the Punjab assembly elections and the party is predicted to win 50-58 seats out of the total 117 seats whereas the survey has projected Congress to be on the second spot with the party being victorious in 41-49 seats and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been placed on the third position with the party winning 12-18 seats. However, the India Today-Axis survey of October 2016 has predicted a tough fight between the Congress and AAP and BJP-SAD coalition is expected to be on the third position. The survey gave 49-55 seats to Congress, 42-46 seats to AAP and SAD-BJP has been placed on the third spot with the coalition winning only 17-21 seats. But the India Today-Axis survey was conducted before the demonetisation decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many things have changed after demonetisation.
