New Delhi: With the third round of polling for assembly election 22 slated to begin on Sunday, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. While Uttar Pradesh will vote for the third phase, voting in Punjab is scheduled to conclude in a single phase on Sunday to elect a new Assembly. In view of the polling, the sale of liquor will be banned for a 48-hour period in UP, Punjab, and other neighbouring areas. The ban will be lifted once the voting concludes on February 20.
‘Dry days’ in poll-bound constituencies are observed because of MMC imposed for free and fair elections. The 48-hour ban on alcohol sales began from 6 pm on Friday and will continue till 7 pm on Sunday.
In the third phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh, a total of 59 out of 403 assembly constituencies across 16 districts will go to the polls on February 20, along with 117 Vidhan Sabha seats in Punjab.
The districts going to the polls in the third phase in UP assembly polls 2022 are–Hathras, Firozabad, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanshiram Nagar (Kasganj), Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Etah, Mainpuri, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Jhansi, and Lalitpur. In the first two phases in UP, the voting was held in 113 constituencies on February 7 and 14.
