Ahmedabad, Dec 12: Congress leader Alpesh Thakor on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi eats Taiwanese mushrooms worth Rs 4,00,000 a day to get fairer. Thakor claimed PM Modi used to be dark but the subsequent consumption of mushrooms made him fairer. Thakor, a firebrand OBC leader, said the cost of a mushroom is Rs 80,000 and the consumption of five such mushrooms adds to Rs 4,00,000.
“Modi Ji eats mushrooms from Taiwan, one mushroom costs Rs 80,000 & he eats 5 mushrooms a day. He was dark like me but he became fair because of imported mushrooms’ claimed Thakor.
But a research on the prices of world’s most expensive mushrooms reveals the claims of the Congress leader cannot be substantiated. A report by BBC Travel, published in 2012, claimed white European Truffle is considered one of the finest mushrooms and presently costs 6000 Euros (Rs 4,50,000) per kilo.
The prices have soared to 6000 Euros, up from 5,000 Euros five years ago, and 4,500 Euros ten years ago. One such Truffle, weighing two and a half pound, was auctioned at whopping for $417,200 in 2010. But the nature of Truffle disallows its eaters to consume it in large quantity. Truffle is graded to garnish on various food items.
A further research introduces us to Wild Guchhi of the Himalayas which costs around Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000 per kilo. Scientifically known as Morchella Esculenta, the unique vegetable is found beneath thick layers of ice. If a person consumes this food, he/she can buy 13 kilos of wild Guchhi for consumption.
Similarly, Japanese mushroom Matsutake was once priced at $600 per kilo.But the market for this culinary dish crashed in past years.
While unconfirmed reports suggest PM Modi is a fan of mushrooms, he has consistently been served mushrooms during foreign visits. During his Britain visit, PM Modi was served dishes such as mushroom pulao and tarka dal.
