New Delhi, June 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday visited All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), to meet former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is admitted there for a routine-check-up. Earlier, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and BJP chief Amit had paid a visit to the former PM at the hospital.
Senior BJP leaders, including Rajnath Singh and LK Advani also visited AIIMS to meet the BJP stalwart.
AIIMS director and a pulmonologist Randeep Guleria is reportedly keeping an eye on Vajpayee’s health. For over three decades, Guleria has served as personal physician to Vajpayee.
Earlier in the day, the hospital in a statement said, “He is stable. A team of doctors under the supervision of Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS are conducting tests,” the hospital stated. However, the hospital said that the decision on his discharge is yet to be taken.
A parliamentarian for over four decades, Vajpayee has been elected to the Lok Sabha (the lower house of Parliament of India) ten times, and twice to the Rajya Sabha (upper house). The Bharat Ratna awardee retired from active politics due to health concerns.
