The man, accused of trying to sexually assault the woman, was out of jail on bail at the time of the incident. Identified as 22-year-old Kishore Vilas Avhad, he was arrested by the police a few days ago in connection with the crime. He had earlier been sent behind bars for murdering his father. On the night of March 25, the woman and her six-year-old daughter stood outside the Shahnoormiya dargah asking for a lift. As Avhad was passing by on his motorcycle, he offered to drop the mother-daughter duo home. However, he took them near a nullah at Rajnagar and attempted to rape the woman at knife point. The woman, however, showed presence of mind and claimed that she is HIV positive. Hearing this, the accused fled from the spot. The woman reported the matter to the police and a case of kidnapping and molestation, along with sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, was registered against Avhad.
Avhad was identified on the basis of the sketch which was prepared as per the details shared with the police by the woman. She had also described the marks and tattoos on the accused’s hand.
