New Delhi: Amid the rising voices for a legislation to make Ram Temple in Ayodhya a reality and the Supreme Court adjourning hearing on title suit to January next year, the Congress has accused the BJP of raking up the issue everytime elections are around the corner. A day after the SC decision, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said, “The Court will decide when the Ayodhya case be heard. It can’t be decided by the BJP or the Congress.”

On the Hindu outfits’ demand for a legislation, Sibal said, “If they want to make a law, then make it. The Congress hasn’t stopped them.” Reiterating party colleague P Chidambaram’s stance that the BJP raises the temple issue around election time, Sibal said, ” This issue is raised as elections approach. Have they been sleeping for the last four years?”

On Monday, Chidambaram had observed that it was a familiar story every five years before the elections when the BJP tried to polarise the issue. “The Congress’s stated position is that the matter is before the Supreme Court and everyone should wait until the Supreme Court decides… We should not jump the gun,” he told reporters.

The RSS had said in a statement, “The Sangh believes that a Ram Temple should be constructed early at the birthplace of (Lord Ram) and should get land for temple construction at the birthplace. With the construction of the temple, an atmosphere of unity and harmony will be created.” Outlining the Government’s stand, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had said a lot people in the country wanted the case to be heard quickly.

The RSS said the Supreme Court should take an early decision on the Ram Janmabhoomi issue and that if there are any hurdles in the path of Ram temple construction at the site, the government should bring a law soon. “The Supreme Court should take an early decision and if there is any difficulty, the Government should make a law to remove hurdles in the construction of the Ram temple to grant land at the Ram Janmabhoomi site,” Arun Kumar, the RSS spokesman, said.

BJP’s estranged ally Shiv Sena also stressed that the Ram temple is an issue of faith and demanded that the government come out with an Ordinance soon. Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said that the onus was on the BJP to prove themselves in the Ram Temple case. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) said Hindus cannot wait eternally for a court judgement on the Ayodhya land dispute case and asked the government to bring a law for building a Ram temple.
