Ottawa, May 13: Chief priest of Nirankari sect, Baba Hardev Singh died today morning in Canada, news agency ANI reported. While more details are awaited, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shahnawaz Hussain confirmed about the unfortunate incident. He tweeted, “Baba Hardev Singh’s demise is a loss to the nation. He was doing a lot of service for the people”. The news is a shocker for the followers of Baba Hardev Singh, as he was famous known preacher among Nirankari sect. Kripasagar, public relation manager of the Nirankari Mission, said they were deeply saddened by the news Baba Hardev Singh’s death. “It was sudden and sad news for us,” Kripasagar told to news agency IANS. Baba Hardev Singh, was born on February 23, 1954, to a pious family of Baba Gurbachan Singh (father) and Kulwant Kaur (mother). He was raised in Delhi where he also completed his primary education at Rosary Public School, Sant Nirankari Colony, Delhi, in 1963. After completing his primary education Baba Hardev Singh joined Yadavindra Public School, Patiala, a boarding school, where he completed his secondary education.
The Sant Nirankari Mission or Nirankari sect is one of the famous sect in the world. The Sant Nirankari Mission is respected across the world for their preaching and message of human unity, equality, humanity and fraternity through the realization of God.
The Sant Nirankari Movement also known as Universal Brotherhood Movement, was started by Baba Buta Singh in early 19th century. The movement believes in the importance of a living leader. However Sikhs, believe in the Sikh scriptures as their final guru. Due to this difference the Sant Nirankari Movement, separated from mainstream Sikhism in 1929. In 1980 Satguru Gurbachan Singh was assassinated by fundamentalist Sikhs after they found the Nirankari Mission growing rapidly in and across India. After Satguru Gurbachan Singh’s assassination, Baba Hardev Singh succeeded his father as the spiritual leader and continued to provide teachings to the believers of the sect. In last 90 years the mission has grown globally with over 2000 centres across the world.
Meanwhile further details about the accident has not yet revealed by the Canadian authorities who are present at the spot near Montreal where the tragic incident happened today morning. It is believed that the final rituals of Baba Hardev Singh will be carried out in India after his body is brought to the country.
