Srinagar, Oct 3: The Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) camp in Baramulla was attacked by a group of 4-6 terrorists on Sunday night. The terror operation was successfully thwarted with 2 of the fidayeens killed, whereas, the remaining escaped from the site. Despite an intense search operation, the absconding terrorists are yet to be apprehended. Unlike the attack in Uri, Indian political or defence establishment has made no such claim that the terror attack in Baramulla was carried out by non-state actors of Pakistan. No official statement has been made regarding the involvement of any terror group operating from across the border. However, sources near to India Today claim that the terrorists were Pakistani nationals and were affiliated to Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM), the anti-India jihad outfit led by Maulana Masood Azhar.
As per the India Today report, their sources in Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu & Kashmir police have claimed that the two terrorists have been identified. While one of them is Haneef alias Hilal, 23 years of age, the other has been identified as Ali, 22. Official confirmation to this report is awaited. If the sources are found to be true, then it would provide India another solid evidence to nail cross-border charges against Pakistan. Recently, the dossier submitted by India before the UN council, seeking Masood Azhar’s name in the list of global terrorists, was once again vetoed by China. Masood Azhar’s outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad has been accused of planning, coordinating and carrying out the terror attack at the air base in Pathankot and the army camp in Uri. The group was earlier involved in the 2001 Parliament attack.
The Baramulla camp was attacked barely three days after Indian army carried out surgical strikes across the Line of Control, targeting the terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). More than 50 terrorists were killed by Indian para commandos in the operation, as per unverified reports. Pakistan has denied India’s claim of surgical strikes. Instead, it has accused India of violating the ceasefire and killing two of its soldiers.
