Baramulla Attack: Here is how terrorists escaped the Indian Army!

On Sunday night, at least four terrorists had attacked the battalion headquarters of the 46 Rashtriya Rifles at stadium colony in Baramulla. The assailants also lobbed some grenades on the unsuspecting forces.

Baramulla, October 3: On Monday, terrorists who attacked an Army camp in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir were able to escape the camp. There was a long exchange of fire that began on Sunday night and one Army jawan was martyred in the operation. However, the assailants escaped as the engagement happened at night. Baramula SSP Imtiaz Hussain said that the Army wasn’t able to neutralize or apprehend any terrorist, as it was dark and the terrorists were using civilians as human shields! He said that apprehension of civilian casualty restricted the forces and prevented them from retaliating adequately.

On Sunday night, at least four terrorists had attacked the battalion headquarters of the 46 Rashtriya Rifles at stadium colony in Baramulla. The assailants also lobbed some grenades on the unsuspecting forces. However, Army retaliated to the firing but their counter attack capabilities were limited due to the terrorists tactic of using civilians as human shields to escape the camp. Speaking about the attack, Hussain told the Indian Express, “They used civilians as shield as it was a civilian area, we could not retaliate properly and they fled. Terrorists managed to escape as it was dark and army couldn’t retaliate effectively due to apprehension of civilian casualty.” ALSO READ: Baramulla terror attack: 2 terrorists killed by Indian army, 1 BSF jawan martyred, operation contained

Search operations were officially declared over on Monday, after it became clear that all terrorists had managed to escape. One other jawan was injured and was admitted to the Rashtriya Rifles hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment but is said to be out of danger. Meanwhile, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence, and briefed him about the encounter and the killing of one jawan. Doval also corresponded with his Pakistani counterpart Nasir Janjua. The two spoke about the escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan after India conducted surgical strikes in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, along the Line of Control.

Doval and Janjua also spoke about exercises to reduce tensions along the Line of Control. India-Pakistan relations have taken a serious hit after the Uri terror attack, which killed 18 soldiers of the Indian Army. India had responded to the attack last week, by conducting surgical strikes which struck seven terror camps, located some 2 Kilometers into the LoC. The Indian Army claims that as many as 38 terrorists were killed in the attack. However Pakistani side, first denied, then accepted and then again denied that the strikes took place. On Sunday, Pakistan went to the extent of inviting national and international journalists to the LoC, to prove that the strikes did not take place.
