Baramulla, Oct 3: At least two terrorists were killed by Indian Army after they attacked near a camp of the 46 Rashtriya Rifles in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district late on Sunday night. One jawan of Border Security Force (BSF) was martyred while one was injured during the heavy exchange of fire between security forces and militants. The fierce gunbattle broke out when heavily-armed terrorists attacked two adjoining camps of Army and the paramilitary force at Baramulla. The injured BSF jawan, who was admitted in RR Hospital, is currently out of danger. “Baramulla incident situation contained and under control,” the Northern Command said in a tweet from its official twitter handle.
Days after India conducted surgical strike along Line of Control targeting seven terror launch pads in Pakistan, Indian Army camp came under attack by terrorists. The terrorists, whose numbers are still unknown, tried to enter the camp through a public park near it, but failed to breach the security. The fidayeen attack on a camp of Rashtriya Rifles and adjacent BSF camp started around 10.30 p.m. on Sunday, and heavy firing continued till midnight. The situation in Baramulla is now under control. Search operations are being conducted in the sensitive areas of the valley to locate the terrorists. The attack on Indian Army camp in Baramulla comes two weeks after the terror attack on an army camp in Uri, which is also in Baramulla district. The September 18 attack on Uri left 17 soldiers dead, while two soldiers died later. After the attack, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the security situation with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Director General BSF K.K. Sharma, who also held discussions with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on phone, briefed the home minister about the situation.
Rajnath Singh expressed condolence over one BSF trooper being martyred and instructed officials to announce compensation to the family. He also told the BSF chief to ensure best medical care for the injured soldier. The Baramulla attack comes within days of India carrying out a surgical attack on terror camps across border. Meanwhile, Pakistan media reported that National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan made contact with each other and agreed to reduce tension on Line of Control.
Foreign Affairs Advisor to Pakistan Prime Minister Sartaj Aziz confirmed that National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his Pakistani counterpart Lieutenant General (retd) Nasir Khan Janjua made contact with each other after surgical strike and agreed to reduce military aggression along LoC, said the Dawn report.
