Punjab Assembly Election Results 2017: The six seats in Bathinda district are - Maur, Bhucho Mandi, Bathinda Rural, Talwandi Sabo, Rampura Phul and Bathinda Urban.
Bathinda, March 11: Bathinda district falls in the Malwa belt of Punjab, the region which witnessed a pro-Aam Aadmi Party wave. Bathinda seat comprises of 6 constituencies which went into polls on February 4, along with other seats which were contested in Punjab assembly elections 2017. The region witnessed a triangular electoral fight featuring AAP, Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance and Congress. The six seats in Bathinda district are: Maur, Bhucho Mandi, Bathinda Rural, Talwandi Sabo, Rampura Phul and Bathinda Urban.
Bathinda is considered the traditional bastion of Congress. In the 2012 assembly elections, the party succeeded in winning 4 out of 6 seats in Bathinda. However, the Lok Sabha seat was wrested by Harsimrat Kaur Badal, wife of deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, in the 2014 elections.
One of the key fights in Bathinda was expected from Bathinda Urban, where, former Punjab Finance Minister and Akali rebel Manpreet Singh Badal is contesting on Congress ticket.

The exit poll results released on Thursday predicted a neck-to-neck fight between Congress and AAP to win the majority. Whereas, the SAD-BJP alliance is facing a complete rout, as per the post-poll surveys. The India Today Axis survey predicted a full majority for Congress, predicting the party to win 62-71 seats. The India TV-C Voter survey predicted a full majority for AAP, slating 59-67 seats for the party. However, other major exit polls predicted an unclear mandate leading to a hung assembly.
The election results of Punjab were declared on March 11. Congress will form next government in the state, winning 77 out of the 117 seats.
