New Delhi, March 7: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced new contracts for both men and women cricketers. While captain Virat Kohli and openers Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan were included in a new A+ category along with fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, former skipper MS Dhoni and off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin have been demoted to the second tier of player contracts.
Dhoni and Ashwin have been bracketed in the A category along with Ravindra Jadeja, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Wridhhiman Saha. These seven players would be eligible for a contract of Rs five crore.
The B category will feature KL Rahul, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma and Dinesh Karthik.
In Grade C will be Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Axar Patel, Karun Nair, Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel and Jayant Yadav.
Interestingly, pacer Mohammad Shami, who is facing a turbulent time in his personal life, has been ignored completely by the BCCI. Shami, who was included in Grade B last time, was not offered any contract this year. Shami’s wife has gone public accusing him of torturing him. Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan has charged the 27-year-old cricketer for never treating him as his wife.
“I have done everything he (Shami) wanted me to do. He has tortured me and has not treated me like his wife. He is a big flirt,” Jahan told reporters. “I am not going to divorce him till my last breath and have all the evidence, will soon drag him to the court,” she added.
Earlier in the day Shami, who made his debut in 2013 against Pakistan, took to Twitter on the matter and said that the rumours are being spread about his personal life.
“I’m Mohammad Shami. Ye jitna bhi news hamara personal life ke bare may chal raha hai, ye sab sarasar jhut hai, ye koi bahut bada humare khilap sajish hai or ye mujhe Badnam karne or mera game kharab karne ka kosis ki ja rahi hai. (There is an attempt to malign my image and ruin my career),” Shami said.
