Bengaluru, July 17: A senior Bengaluru police official has been moved out since a controversial video of his surfaced, said a Zee report on Tuesday. Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S Guled was shifted a day after the video and he has been replaced with TP Shivakumar. On Monday, some television channels showed a video of the IPS officer with a woman, claiming that the clip had been provided by the latter’s husband. According to media reports, the action came after Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara sought a report from the Director General of Police. The report also said that a complaint had been filed against Guled at Koramangala police station in Bengaluru. He has reportedly been charged under section 497 (adultery) of the Indian Penal Code. The viral video was submitted as proof against the officer. The cop has, however, dismissed the allegations of forcing the woman into a relationship.
Only last week, the Centre had told the Supreme Court that adultery must remain a punishable offence to protect the sanctity of marriage. The Centre was opposing a plea which called for the Section 497 of the IPC to be scrapped, contending it does not treat men and women equally.
In its affidavit to the top court, the Centre said that striking down Section 497, which provides for punishment only to a man for having extra-marital sexual ties with the wife of another man, will destroy the institution of marriage.
