Bengaluru, Feb 26: In a shocking incident, a 38-year-old man set himself on fire in front of Mico Layout traffic police station on Sunday, after the police seized his bike. The man, who works as a courier delivery agent, succumbed to his injuries. The family of the deceased has alleged foul play in his death. Also Read - Shameful! The man, named Manikantha, who joined the firm recently, was stopped by the police in front of the station for a drink-and-drive check. The man simple refused to take the test. He allegedly told the police that they could seize the bike if they wanted as it didn’t belong to him. He didn’t take the test and left arguing that he was not drunk. The police said that Manikanth returned at 11:30 pm and demanded that they give his bike back as he had some valuables in it. Police permitted him to take his valuables, but he demanded that they return his bike instead. Mani again came to the Mico Layout traffic police station and demanded that the police release the bike. When police declined, he rushed outside, poured petrol on himself and self immolated. A home guard, who was present in the station, saw the man in flames and rushed to save him. He also sustained burn injuries while dousing the fire. The two were admitted to a hospital, where Manikanth succumbed to his injuries, while the home guard is out of danger.
