Bengaluru: Amid the ongoing tussle over suggestions to extend Namma Metro services to towns on the city’s periphery, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has recently received the state government’s approval for carrying out the feasibility of as many as five more corridors of the mass rapid transit network. According to BMRCL’s new MD, Maheshwar Rao M, an agency is being hired to conduct the feasibility studies for as any as five corridors. The five corroders on which the studies will be conducted are; Challaghatta to Bidadi (15km), Silk Institute to Harohalli on Kanakapura Road (24km), Madavara to Kunigal Cross near Nelamangala (11km), Bommasandra to Attibele (11km) and Kalena Agrahara to Kadugodi Tree Park via Jigani, Attibele and Varthur (68km), as reported by TOI.
The total length is 129km.
Responding to BMRCL’s stand on the state government’s proposal to extend the Bengaluru metro line from Bommsandra to Hosur, Rao said that the MoHUA has given the approval for Chennai Metro to carry out feasibility studies. “The Ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) has given in-principle approval for Chennai Metro to carrying out feasibility studies. Further policy decisions will be taken after preparation of the study report,” he said.
Expressing his thoughts on the much-awaited opening of the 19km Yellow Line which will connect RV Road to Bommasandra, Rao stated, “Civil works are nearly over and finishing touches are in progress. The track work is 100% finished, while system work has progressed to 95%, including that of outdoor signalling,” TOI quoted Rao as saying. The line also links Electronics City and industrial hubs on Hosur Road.
The Corporation is expecting to receive a prototype communication-based Train Control train from China in next month.
“As soon we receive it, after formation and requisite testing at the depot, testing on the main line will start,” he said. “Apart from the prototype train, two sets of car body shells have already been delivered to Titagarh Rail System Limited and we are awaiting outfitting works. The delivery of these two train sets is expected in May. Thereafter, BMRCL will receive two sets of trains every month. The major issues pertaining to software required for commencing trial and commercial operations have been resolved,” Rao said.
