Bengaluru: Good news for residents of Bengaluru: the Namma Metro will begin a trial run on the Green Line extension from Nagasandra to Madavara starting August 6. After successful trial runs, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) plans to open the line by the end of September or in the first week of October, according to a report by TNIE quoting BMRCL Managing Director Maheswar Rao. The 3.7 km stretch, which cost Rs 198 crore, includes stations at Manjunath Nagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara.
“We have taken up deep cleaning work. Various tests are being done. The trial run will be held for a month. We are planning to invite the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety for an inspection by the second week of September,” the official said.
Notably, this is an extension line and metros running on the Green Line will be used.
If you are a resident of Nelamangala, Makali, or Madanayakanahalli, or if your travels originate from Tumakuru, the Metro services at Madavara are now available for your commute. This newly inaugurated route is particularly beneficial for those heading to the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre.
The initial deadline to complete the rail project was slated for August 2019. However, due to some hiccups like the delayed completion of the Madavara station, the timeline had to be extended several times. Nukaga Fukushiro, the Lower House Speaker of Japan, will join four members of parliament for a meeting with BMRCL officials in Bengaluru, come Wednesday. As relayed by an inside source, they’ll also experience the Bengaluru Metro, taking a short ride from MG Road to Vidhana Soudha around 12:40 in the afternoon.
