New Delhi, June 12:  Bhaiyyuji Maharaj, a Madhya Pradesh based self-proclaimed spiritual leader committed suicide on Tuesday by shooting himself at his residence in Indore. He was rushed to Bombay Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

A large number of his followers have gathered outside the hospital. What led to the spiritual leader taking the extreme step is yet to be known. He shot himself dead an hour after his last tweet on Maha Shivratri and Gopinath Kaviraj. Check out his last tweets here:

Expressing grief over his demise, MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan Said,”My tribute to saint Bhayyuji Maharaj. The country has lost a person who was a confluence of culture, knowledge & selfless service.”

The incident came months after he was offered cabinet post by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. However, he had refused the offer saying,”A post holds no importance for a saint. All he has ought to think of is service to the people. When a post or status does not touch your mind, intellect or conscience, why think about it.”

He was one of the five saints who are members of a special committee to spread public awareness on conservation of Narmada river and plantation drive and who have been given the MoS status.

Bhaiyyuji Maharaj, whose real name is Udaysingh Deshmukh was a Zamindar’s son. He was known for his luxurious lifestyle.
