New Delhi: While addressing a rally ahead of Bhoranj (SC) Assembly by-election 2017, former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Tuesday said that he want to celebrate two festivals. “On April 9, the day Bhoranj assembly constituency votes, I want to celebrate Navratras while on April 13, the day of counting I will celebrate Baisakhi at the booth or sector that polls the highest number of votes for the BJP,” Leading daily The Indian Express quoted him as saying.
According to the reports of news ageny PTI, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh will campaign for three days for Bhoranj assembly by-election from Wednesday. He will address eight election meetings on April 6 and six on April 7, the last day for campaigning, officials told PTI. The polling for Bhoranj by-election will be held on April 9 and counting of votes would take place on April 13.
The election is considered important for both the BJP and the Congress as it is likely to set the trend for assembly elections in the state, due later this year
Earlier on March 19, the Congress has nominated Prem Kaushal as the party’s candidate for Bhoranj (SC) Assembly by poll. Kaushal’s name was selected from a list of nine names sent to the Congress high command by the party’s state election committee, PTI had quoted Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu as saying.
The by poll was necessitated following the death of BJP MLA Ishwar Dass Dhiman, who had won from this seat six times in a row and had defeated Kaushal twice. The BJP has nonminated Anil Dhiman, the son of Ishwar Dass, for the by-election. Notification for the by-election was issued on March 14 and March 20 was the last date for filing of nomination.
The results of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Assembly polls would have no bearing in Himachal Pradesh, Sukkhu had claimed, adding the Congress will win the bypoll and also the elections to the state Assembly, due later this year.
