Delhi Police agree to register an FIR into alleged pellet gun injuries during the CJP protest after Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in outside the DCP office.

New Delhi: In a matter of big win for CJP protestors who were allegedly attacked with pellet guns, the Delhi Police has agreed to file FIR after Rahul Gandhi's dharna. Gandhi, who was accompanied by the youth, 19-year-old Sahil Lochab, claimed that he was told by police officers that an FIR could not be registered as "there are orders from the top". Notably, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior party leaders also joined the protest.

The move comes after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a dharna at the Parliament Street police station, demanding registration of the FIR in connection with pellet injuries suffered by 19-year-old Sahil Lochab during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest.

"We have registered an FIR under Sections 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 25 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS," the officer said.

The leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha also targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying that he was afraid of justice. Gandhi, along with Lochab, first visited the Mandir Marg police station and sought the registration of the FIR. After his demand was not accepted, he went to the Parliament Street police station and met Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) Sachin Sharma.

After the discussion with Sharma failed to yield results, the Congress leader sat on a dharna at the police station, which also houses the DCP's office. Lochab and his mother were also there.

Rahul Gandhi's allegations against BJP

As Rahul Gandhi staged a dharna at a police station here, the Congress on Friday accused the BJP of communalising the situation in the country, evading accountability and raising non-issues. The opposition party asserted that the dharna would continue till an FIR is registered by Delhi Police over pellet injuries suffered by a youth, 19-year-old Sahil Lochab, during the CJP-led July 20 protest.

"Our demand is simple -- register an FIR and give us the FIR number. LoP Rahul Gandhi is giving voice to this demand," Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh told reporters at the Parliament Street police station.
