Bihar: 16-year-old Girl Commits Suicide in Siwan Over Not Performing Well in Science Paper of Class X Examination

New Delhi, March 23: A 16-year-old daughter of a government teacher allegedly hanged herself to death in Siwan district of Bihar on Thursday. The deceased, identified as Ritu Kumar, reportedly did not perform well in the Science paper in the ongoing matriculation examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

According to police, the girl used her scarf as noose. She had tied it to a hook on the wall in the balcony of her house to commit suicide. She was living with her parents and an elder sister in a rented accommodation. Her father Santosh Kmar is a government school teacher. In a written complaint, he said that the girl had informed the family that she had been unable to perform according to her expectations in the Science examination. However,  she had scored good marks in the past examinations and was a bright student, her parents told police.

Speaking to The Times of India, Town police station SHO Subodh Kumar said,”The girl, after having dinner, was studying in the balcony while the other members went to sleep. It was around 1 AM when the girl’s mother woke up and went to check on her that she spotted the girl hanging.”

After conducting a post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family, the SHO added.
