Patna: Locals in Bihar’s Gaya are up in arms ever since a teenage girl was found beheaded and her face burnt with acid, said media reports on Thursday. (Also read: Eight Rape Cases in National Capital Every Day Last Year)
According to a leading portal, while the family of the 16-year-old girl claimed she was raped, police said it was a case of honour killing. Alleged delay in police action sent the locals out on streets to register their protest and demand arrest of the culprits.
They said the girl went missing on December 28 and her decomposed body was found near her home on January 6. Her family said they filed a police complaint as soon as they realised she was missing but police claimed the complaint was registered four days later.
Police also insisted it was a case of honour killing. A senior police officer in Gaya told the portal that the girl’s mother and sister had confessed that she returned on December 31, three days after going missing. Police claimed that the same night, around 10 PM, she was sent somewhere by her father in the company of some acquaintance.
The man has been detained, they said. While he has not confessed to his role in the murder, his call records showed he was in touch with the suspects, said the report.
Police were awaiting the autopsy report to see if the teenager was raped as well. Locals took out candlelight marches on Tuesday and Wednesday for a quick probe.
