Patna, November 8: Nitish Kumar is all set to retain the power in Bihar Assembly Elections after the Grand Alliance headed towards clear majority as per the counting till 2 PM. The Bharatiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance faced major setback in the Bihar Assembly Election Results 2015. Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United is leading on 71 seats while its alliance partner Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress are ahead in 76 and 23 constituencies respectively.
The BJP could maintain its lead on just 53 seats while its alliance LJP and RLSP could lead in just 2 constituencies each. Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM is ahead in 3 seats. Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM, which contested on 6 seats of Seemanchal region of Bihar to make inroads in the state, failed to open its account. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called up JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar and congratulated him on victory in the Bihar Assembly polls. “Had a telephone conversation with Shri @nitishkumar & congratulated him on the victory,” Modi tweeted as the mahaghatbhandhan of JD(U), RJD and Congress surged towards a convincing victory in the elections. Nitish Kumar also thanked Modi for his greetings.
BJP leader Ram Madhav dismissed suggestions that the appeal of Narendra Modi was on the wane in view of Bihar poll verdict but said the party will take corrective measures. “We try to learn from every election. Give us some time. We will take corrective measures,” he said as it became clear that the NDA was facing defeat in the high-stakes polls.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today termed the Bihar poll results as a “victory of unity over divisiveness” and congratulated Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD Supremo Lalu Yadav on the win. “Congratulations to the people of Bihar, to Nitishji, to Laluji, to the Congress leaders and karyakartas and the Mahagathbandhan on this victory.”
