Patna, Nov 21: The Bihar Block Education Officer has ordered school teachers to keep an eye on the people defecating in open at 5 AM and 4 PM  in urban wards and panchayat committees of Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The school teachers have been asked to click selfies to shame the defaulters and the principals have been asked to supervise the whole plan to discourage people defecating in open in the state.

The teachers would make rounds of the areas, catch people defecating in the open, click selfies with them and then, convince them to abandon the unhygienic practice. The order has been issued to meet the December 31 deadline to make Aurangabad “open defecation free”.

“The latest orders for us to check open defecation has been sent to us with copies to DM, DDC, SDO, BDO and even local police stations. Imagine how many government work we are expected to do, except teaching?” a teacher was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times. Another added that this is one more mission that the teachers have been thrown into.

Earlier there have been orders on campaigns against alcohol, child marriage, and dowry which the teachers have to be a part of. “We are yet to see any directive for completion of syllabus and how it should be done, as the entire focus is on just conducting exams,” she said.

The teachers, according to the reports, have written to the chief minister requesting him to not add to the long list of campaigns and non-academic work.

While the Bihar Block Education Board has ordered school teachers to keep an eye on people relieving themselves openly, the Telangana police have adopted an advanced way of getting Karimnagar district rid of open defecation and that is drones. The drone cameras have been deployed on the banks of a local reservoir and the police have claimed that the practice has drastically brought down the numbers within three days.
