Patna, November 20: Nitish Kumar created history after taking oath for the fifth time as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Friday. Kumar inducted 24 members in his new cabinet. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s younger son will be Kumar’s Deputy and has also been given the port folios of PWD and Building Constructions department. Kumar has also has inducted Lalu Yadav’s eldest son Tejaswi Pratap Yadav in his cabinet and given him the Departments of Health and Minor Irrigation. However, Kumar has kept Home Ministry with himself.
The other members of the cabinet included Abdul Bari Siddiqui who has been named as the Finance Minister while Vijendra Yadav has been given the ministry of Power and Commerce. Lalan Singh has been allocated the Water Sanitation Ministry, while Ashok Chaudhary has been given the department of Education. Other eminent politicians too got a place in Nitish Kumar’s government. Ram Vichar will look after the Irrigation Ministry while Shravan Kumar has been given the responsibility of Rural Health Department. Politicians like Madan Saini has also been inducted in the ministry. He will look after the Food and Civil Supplies Department while Alok Mehta will take charge as Cooperative minister. The Nitish Kumar led Grand Alliance government has altogether 28 ministers — 12 each from RJD and JDU, while 4 from Congress. The equation between Grand Alliance is the talking point in the political arena as how the coalition changed the face of massive elections. The three parties fought the Bihar Assembly together and secured 178 seats — RJD clinching 80 seats, JDU 71 and Congress came back with 27 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Narendra Modi managed to get only 53 seats, while its allies RLSP and LJP got two seats each. However, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM got one seat.
