Patna, Nov 8: Results of Bihar assembly elections have been declared by the Election Commission. The Mahagathbandhan comprising of Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress emerged victorious with a huge margin against Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance. The grand-alliance won on 178 seats whereas the BJP coalition could secure only 59 assembly segments.
Nitish Kumar is set to become the chief minister of Bihar for the fifth time. Within the Mahagathbandhan, JD(U) won 73 seats, whereas Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD bagged 82 constituencies. Congress, which as of lately has been losing grounds in most of the states, appears to have bounced back in Bihar. The party won 27 of the 40 seats it contested.
