Patna, October 8: In the run up to the 2015 Bihar Assembly Elections, popular news channel India Today had conducted an exhaustive pre poll survey, in collaboration with Cicero. The survey has predicted that the current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is in fact the most popular leader in the state, followed by Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sushil Modi. The poll also predicted a clear victory for the Janata Dal (United) lead Grand Alliance, which includes Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal and Rahul Gandhi’s Congress. According to the survey, Grand Alliance got 122 seats, ahead of the BJP lead NDA’s 111 seats. Both the alliances got 41% and 39% voter share respectively. The poll also compared the standing of individual parties, leaders and alliances, with their standing in the last elections as well as in the past two months. The comparitive figures showed while the JDU has climbed in vote share from last month’s poll survey, gaining 41% from 38%, the NDA has slipped down from 42% to 39%. CM Nitish Kumar’s popularity actually soared from 29% to 38% in the past month, with Sushil Modi following him with 22%. The NDA is yet to announce its Chief ministerial candidate, but Modi has always been the top contenders. This survey clearly establishes him as the obvious choice for the post. Lalu Prasad however, lost out on his popularity, with his support slipping from 12% to 9%.
The landmark five phase elections are set to start on October 12. These elections will be a defining factor in the political scene of India and will determine if the Modi wave is permanent and is it can brave the ever changing opinion of the Indian electorate. The excitement over the polls is already quite palpable, with election rallies occurring every other day. The result will be declared on November 8 and what remains to be seen is whether the Grand Alliance is able to deliver its promise of ending the delusion of the Modi wave or not.
