Governor KN Tripathi Hospitalised in Patna, Just After Nitish’s Resignation

On Wednesday evening Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor KN Tripathi at his residence, which was accepted by him.

Patna, July 26: Moments after Bihar Chief Minister submitted his resignation to state governor KN Tripathi, the governor has been hospitalised in Patna. “Bihar Governor KN Tripathi admitted to Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna, due to an ENT problem,” news agency ANI tweeted.

On Wednesday evening, Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar met Governor KN Tripathi and tendered his resignation, which was accepted by the state chief. The two-year-long political experiment between Nitish’s – JD(U), Lalu Yadav’s – RJD and Congress. Nitish Kumar has transitioned already into an arrangement with the BJP.

Nitish Kumar is likely to take oath as Bihar Chief Minister but this time with the support of BJP. As the meeting between BJP leaders and Nitish Kumar is taking place at latter’s residence, some reports suggest that JD(U) chief will take oath as Bihar Chief Minister on Thursday at 5 pm. Sushil Modi to be Appointed Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Under JD(U)-BJP Alliance. On Thursday a new cabinet will be formed which will be headed by Nitish Kumar. But it is not clear whether in the absence of Bihar Governor an oath taking ceremony is possible.

Nityanand Rai, BJP Bihar unit chief, along with Sushil Kumar Modi confirmed their decision to support the JD(U). “We both called Nitish Kumarji and informed him that the BJP is ready to support JD(U). We have informed about the decision to the Governor as well,” said Sushil Modi.

JD(U), with 71 legislators, is the second-largest party in the Bihar legislative assembly. With support from 53 BJP MLAs, the party will cross the majority mark of 122. Along with the BJP, its alliance partners – Lok Samata Party and Lok Janshakti Party is expected to join the coalition.

The RJD with 80 legislators would remain the single largest party in Bihar assembly. After this, the RJD will play the role of the Opposition in the state.
