Jamui (Bihar), July 2: An RTI activist and his friend have been shot dead on Sunday night in Jamui. This is the third such incident in the state in the past three months. IANS quoted a police official as saying that Valmiki Yadav and his friend Karu Yadav were attacked by motorcycle-borne assailants near Bichwe village in Sikandra police station area.

Yadav had reportedly exposed several rackets and financial irregularities in the public welfare schemes and development work in the district, said the agency.
On June 19, RTI activist Rajendra Singh was shot dead by unidentified persons when he was returning from Kutchery in Motihari. The police said Singh’s wife has lodged an FIR blaming the killing of her husband on a property dispute. She alleged that her husband’s brother had been eyeing their property since long and used to even coax them to part with the same since the couple had only three daughters and no son, the SHO said. “All the accused are currently absconding. An intensive search has been started to nab them,” the SHO added.
In April, Vaishali-based RTI activist Jayant Kumar was killed by professional killers reportedly for exposing corruption in the Bihar State Food Corporation (BSFC), police said. Acting on a tip-off, members of the special investigation team headed by Mahua sub-divisional police officer Anant Kumar Rai arrested four suspects, including Munna Rai, husband of a block pramukh, for their alleged involvement in the April 4 murder, reported The Telegraph.
