New Delhi: Robbers looted passengers aboard New Delhi-Bhagalpur Express in Lakhisarai district of Bihar, said reports on Thursday. Around eight to ten robbers reportedly attacked S-10, S-9, AC 3 tier and AC 2 tier coaches of the train on Wednesday night.
The unidentified robbers looted cash worth Rs 25 lakh, jewellery and mobile phones from passengers on the 12350 New Delhi-Bhagalpur express. The incident took place between Dhanauri and Kajra in the district.
It came to light after a relative of one of the looted passengers reached out to the Indian Railways for help through Twitter. Thereafter, Railway Protection Force, Eastern Railway directed the concerned unit to take necessary action in this regard.
Last year, in September, robbers stopped a train by tampering with the signalling system and robbed four passengers of their valuables by slipping their hands in through open windows, railway police said.
The robbery occurred on the Yashwantpur-Kachiguda Express in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana.
The thieves took away 280 gm of gold, three cell phones and nearly Rs 10,000 in cash.
A similar incident took place earlier in 2018 when four armed robbers looted valuables from passengers of an Ambala-bound train soon after it departed from the Hazrat Nizamuddin station here, officials said.
