People’s Mandate Insulted in Bihar, Says JD(U) Rebel Sharad Yadav at ‘BJP Bhagao Rally’

Though Congress leader Sonia Gandhi didn't attend the rally, she addressed the crowd through a recorded message.

Patna, August 27: Rebel JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav on Sunday launched an attack on his estranged party colleague Nitish Kumar, saying people’s mandate was insulted. He was speaking in the ‘BJP Bhagao, Desh Bachao’ rally, which was organised by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav to show opposition’s strength against the ruling BJP.

Sharad Yadav attended the rally against his party chief Nitish Kumar’s clear direction. After reaching the stage, he embraced Lalu Prasad Yadav. While addressing the crowd, he stressed on opposition’s unity. He further said that the nation is run on democratic narrative, not jumlas. He said he would continue his fight and he was not afraid of anything. He said he was not fighting against those who broke the alliance, reported Livecities.in. According to media reports, JD(U) was contemplating action against the dissident leader. The party may move to strip the leader of his Rajya Sabha seat. The party had already sacked Yadav as party’s leader in the Upper House of Parliament. In its national executive meeting, JD(U) leadership refused to take any further action against the septuagenarian.

Though Congress leader Sonia Gandhi didn’t attend the rally, she addressed the crowd through a recorded message. Sonia Gandhi said that the government system was trying to force its ideology and it had no regard for values espoused by country’s forefathers like Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar. From Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad was present in the rally.

Lalu Prasad Yadav, CPI’s D Raja, TMC’s Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Yadav, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav were the leaders from the anti-BJP spectrum who attended the rally. BSP chief Mayawati and Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi gave the rally a miss.
