New Delhi, August 1: Dalit voices within the government have began raising their pitch against the atrocities committed against their community by the ideological affiliates of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A couple of days after Union Minister Ramdas Athawale condemned the flogging of Dalits in Una in unequivocal manner, BJP MP from North-West Delhi Udit Raj raised condemned the reaction of BJP legislator Raja Singh towards the attack on Una Dalits. Raj has demanded the expulsion of Singh from the party for possessing an anti-Dalit mindset.

Raja Singh, a BJP MLA from Hyderabad, supported the attack on Dalits in Una, saying that the “galeez (filthy) Dalits” should be taught a tough lesson. “Those Dalits were taking the cow, the meat of gau mata, the attack on them was good, they must be beaten,” he said in a video uploaded on social media. The video went viral on Sunday, on a day, when thousands of Dalits in Gujarat assembled for a massive rally in Ahmedabad. Community members affiliated to 30 Dalit groups in the state gathered in the state capital, demanding the ruling BJP government to take action against those involved in the killing of Dalits in Thangadh in 2012, along with the flogging of cow skinners in Una. The rally was supported by Islamic political-cum-social group Jama’at-e-Ulema-Hind.
